Psarras Spiridon

Dr. Spyridon Psarras’ research activity focuses on continuum mechanics and multiscale modelling of structures made from composite materials, with particular emphasis on structural design, damage and failure prediction, structural integrity, and repair. Specific research interests include the development of predictive finite element models, the use of physics-informed AI and Digital Twins, smart and self-healing composites, and circular composites for sustainability, recycling, and reuse applications. The research also extends to Biomedical Engineering, where computational mechanics and artificial intelligence are combined to analyse complex biological and mechanical systems.

Dr. Spyridon Psarras is an Assistant Professor specializing in the mechanics of structures made from composite materials, with research interests spanning computational mechanics, multiscale modelling, advanced structural analysis, and biomedical engineering. He holds a PhD from Imperial College London, an MSc in Computational Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Thessaly.

During his appointment at Imperial College London, Dr. Psarras received support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and worked as a Research Associate and Imperial College Consultant in collaboration with industry. He also served as the postdoctoral representative of the Department of Aeronautics and of the Faculty of Engineering.

Dr. Psarras has substantial experience in the preparation, development, and implementation of collaborative research proposals at national and European level. Representative funded projects and research initiatives in which he has participated include:

He has served as Guest Editor for Special Issues of the Journal of Composites Science and Applied Sciences (MDPI) and regularly contributes to international conferences and scientific activities in the fields of composite structures, computational mechanics, multiscale modelling, and physics-informed artificial intelligence.
