{"id":35471,"date":"2025-04-12T17:26:18","date_gmt":"2025-04-12T15:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mead.upatras.gr\/?post_type=courses&#038;p=35471"},"modified":"2025-04-12T17:26:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-12T15:26:18","slug":"mechanics-of-composite-materials","status":"publish","type":"courses","link":"https:\/\/mead.upatras.gr\/en\/courses\/mechanics-of-composite-materials\/","title":{"rendered":"Mechanics of Composite Materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>COURSE CONTENT\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mechanical behavior of orthotropic composite materials, Introduction to anisotropic elasticity theory, failure theories for orthotropic composites, Classical laminate plate theory (CLPT), Laminated beams and frames made of FRP composites, thin-walled beams, sandwich structural elements, Navier solutions for bending, buckling and vibration of simply-supported laminated plates, hygrothermal behavior of laminated composites, calculation of residual stress and deformation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEARNING OUTCOMES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By the end of this course the students will be able to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Understand introductory concepts of anisotropic theory of elasticity and calculate in various coordinate systems thermo-mechanical tensor components through tensor transforms<\/li>\n<li>Have assimilated the principles and methods of classical laminate theory (CLT) and calculate stress and strain in each layer of the stacking sequence as well as its effective thermo-mechanical engineering constants<\/li>\n<li>Perform stress analysis of laminated plates, beams and frames composed of multilayered composites (calculation of stress, strain, displacement tensors in each ply, failure conditions)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This knowledge is necessary and is used in the subsequent course Design with Composite Materials but also in related Diploma Thesis projects.
