{"id":39461,"date":"2026-09-05T08:24:50","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mead.upatras.gr\/?post_type=courses&#038;p=39461"},"modified":"2026-09-05T08:56:39","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T06:56:39","slug":"sustainable-and-intelligent-design-of-machines-and-mechanical-systems","status":"publish","type":"courses","link":"https:\/\/mead.upatras.gr\/en\/courses\/sustainable-and-intelligent-design-of-machines-and-mechanical-systems\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable and Intelligent Design of Machines and Mechanical Systems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>COURSE CONTENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course content focuses on the integrated design of mechanical systems based on principles of sustainability, circularity, and intelligent technologies, covering the systematic formulation of design problems, the multi-criteria evaluation of solutions, and the development of modern design approaches.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Principles of sustainable and intelligent design of mechanical systems<\/li>\n<li>Formulation and modeling of design problems involving multiple criteria<\/li>\n<li>Multi-criteria evaluation and selection of design solutions<\/li>\n<li>Circularity, and environmental and social assessment in design<\/li>\n<li>Integration of sensors, data, and intelligent algorithms<\/li>\n<li>Development of integrated design solutions using modern tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2022 Comprehensive case study and knowledge synthesis<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEARNING OUTCOMES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course is elective and is offered to all sectors during the 9<sup>th<\/sup> semester of studies.<\/p>\n<p><u>Course Objectives:<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The course addresses contemporary principles of sustainable and intelligent design of machines and mechanical systems, with emphasis on life-cycle thinking, multi-criteria decision-making, and the integration of intelligent technologies (sensors, data, algorithms).<\/p>\n<p>Its aim is to develop the ability to design integrated mechanical systems that simultaneously optimize technical performance, cost, environmental and social impacts, as well as resource circularity.<\/p>\n<p>Particular emphasis is placed on the use of data, intelligent algorithms, and multi-criteria methods to support well-documented design decisions.<\/p>\n<p><u>Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>utilize data and computational tools to support well-documented design decisions<\/li>\n<li>design not only for strength and functionality, but also with consideration of life cycle and sustainability<\/li>\n<li>integrate sensors, data, and intelligence into machines<\/li>\n<li>justify design choices using multi-criteria reasoning<\/li>\n<li>approach the machine as a system rather than as an isolated component<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The proposed course is smoothly integrated into the existing core of design-oriented courses and aligns with the logic of progressive deepening in the design process.
