Βιογραφικό σημείωμα

Dr. Antonis Sakellarios is Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at the University of Patras in Greece. Prior to his appointment, he was adjunct lecturer at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina and associate researcher at the FORTH Biomedical Research Institute.
Antonis’ interests lie in the understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases, organs and systems using computational approaches, digital twins, and simulations. His work focuses on the development of multi-scale models combining 3D mechanistic modelling approaches with artificial intelligence and machine learning. His aim is to integrate such models into decision support systems for the clinical practice. Major part of his part work regards the computational modelling of the atherosclerotic plaque development.
Antonis I. Sakellarios has published over 45 journal articles, 100 conference papers, 1 book and 4 book chapters. He participated as a researcher in European and National projects related to atherosclerosis, heart failure, stent deployment, and other. He received fellowship grants from the Hellenic Cardiology Society and the European Atherosclerosis Society.
2006: BSc degree and integrated Master at the Department of Biological Applications and Technologies of University of Ioannina.
  • 2008-2016: PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Department of Material Sciences and Engineering University of Ioannina “Numerical modelling of atherosclerotic plaque development”.
  • 2016-2018: Postdoc research in the field of prognosis and prediction of cardiovascular disease progression at FORTH Biomedical and Research Institute.
  • 2016-2023: Technical manager for EU funded projects at the Unit of Medical Technology and Intelligent Information Systems, University of Ioannina.
  • 2018-2023: Adjunct lecturer at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Ioannina
